it is a woken dream

So it's the third day of November and that causes me to realize that we are just shy of two weeks until the Turkey day.
I must find a turkey!
I stopped at the library today, under the assumption that three holds were prepared for me. I had no idea the terror that waited.

I'm now officially over the check out limit, but the librarians were so nice and everything, telling me it's kewl if I take on more than 20 items, just this once. "But bring some things back okay? And knit a good sweater."
Oh, such a sweater it will be. And yeah I gotta get stuff back.. there's like, 18 more holds lost in the ether somewhere between other libraries and mine.

Starsky has 2 inches left on the back and one sleeve left to go. After careful evaluation, and some of the maths, I have come to understand that we will be short on yarn. One, possibly two skeins (I really have no idea how much the collar will take. It's 3 inches of ribbing and it goes from the bottom left all the way around to the bottom right. Then there's the belt.) Needless to say, the yarn source has been contacted. They're going to see if they have any of my dye lot left. It's all subjective.I'm not too worried about it. This has been a monster of a project but I really love everything about the sweater so far, even if it is going to be somewhat largish on me (good grief, the sleeves) and the back has become so heavy that it throws off my gauge while knitting if unsupported.
But these are all things I'm willing to learn as a first time sweater knitter, for it sure won't be the last. And after paging through a certain book the other day I've come to the determination that adjusting patterns to fit me will actually be an easier task than I thought possible before. It just takes the maths.
I'm digging out the calculator now.
Right after I peruse the idear of this here perfekt sweater.

I do what I have to do

Starsky, sleeve x1.
That should look like a meadow of green grass to you, the casual viewer. A veritible field, even.
That's because it is.
On this side, the bastards are freakin islands. Continents of fabric in the oh so excitable stockinette stitch.
These sleeves are monsters. To the point I'm pretty sure that there will be a decided lack of yarn available for the collar and belt of this fiendish yarn eating sweater.

A girl has to take the edge off somehow.

Coming soon: This guy's mate.
I've discovered that things like stockinette that doesn't involve counting stitches or following a pattern frees up the brain for other things.

I'm lookin for something. You could say I have some reading to do.
Yay libraries.

it overwhelms me

Starsky, right front.

And by the by, what the hell is this? Graphic reissues of The Baby-Sitter's Club? When the hell was someone going to let me in the loop?

Talk about an awesome chunk of childhood.

what I've been missing

Q: How do I convince my family/friends/significant other that a swift is a wise investment?

A: Take your ball winder. If you don't have a ball winder, find your nostepinne or whatever else you use for such tasks. Find laceweight. (About 1200 yards is a good start - not that I would know). Explain to your victim, er, helper, that they must hold the yarn while you wind. Begin winding. At approximately 450 yards, begin describing how helpful a swift is. When complete with winding laceweight, pull out other yarn to wind "since you have the help". Watch how fast they offer to find you a swift.
Again. Not that I would know. I'm just sayin.

Happy Friday 13. The End is finally here.

some are special

Today the rain finally went away, and the sun was out. It was gweat. And offered a great opportunity for photo shoots.

Yes, I finished, and already started another.

Somebody help me.
I also read a great article about weaving in ends. I learned a ton. And I enjoy it. Yes, I enjoy weaving in ends. I know you've been seeing items the last few days with ends hanging out. But that's about to change. Cus tonight is weaving in ends night. That's just how much fun I think it is.
Oh, I've lost it alright.

up in the sky

Today is Superman Saturday on the Boomerang network. Also, the mysterious billboard has been deciphered.
Between watching the coming-of stories of all the Man fo Steel's nemeses and Clark Kent's near brush with death, I have had my nose buried in several books. The UPSMAN brought me fun things, like this and this and this and this.

I have discovered that the only thing as great as knitting is reading about knitting. Help me, I've fallen down hard.
I leave you to further my education on things we might consider magic.
